Women’s Self Defence Seminars in Leeds

As autumn settles in, the evenings get darker earlier, routines change and many of us find ourselves walking to the car, heading home from work or travelling around Leeds after dark more often.
That doesn’t mean we need to start looking suspiciously at every hedge.
But it is a good reminder that having a few practical self-defence skills, being more aware of your surroundings and knowing how to respond confidently in an uncomfortable situation can be genuinely useful.
That is exactly what our next women’s self defence seminar at AEGIS Leeds East is about.
The Leeds East event is actually one of just four women-only self defence seminars taking place at AEGIS Martial Arts Academies across Leeds this October, with sessions being held in North, South, West and East Leeds.
Our Leeds East seminar is the final event in the October series and takes place on Thursday 29th October from 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Our women-only seminars are relaxed, practical sessions designed for women who want to learn useful personal-protection skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
You do not need any previous martial arts experience. You do not need to be especially fit or flexible. And you certainly do not need to arrive knowing how to throw somebody dramatically over your shoulder.
Just come along ready to learn.
Learn Practical Self Defence Skills
During the session, our instructors will introduce you to straightforward self-defence techniques based around realistic situations.
The aim is not to teach complicated movements that take years to master. We focus on practical principles and techniques that are easy to understand and give you a useful introduction to how self-defence training works.
Everything is taught step by step, so the seminar is perfectly suitable for complete beginners.
Train in a Supportive Environment
One of the biggest reasons we run women-only sessions is simply to make that first experience of martial arts and self-defence feel as comfortable as possible.
You will be training alongside other women who have come for much the same reason: to learn something useful, improve their confidence and find out what self-defence training is actually like.
Our professional AEGIS instructors will guide you through the session in a safe, welcoming environment where asking questions is encouraged and nobody is expected to know what they are doing before they arrive.
Develop Better Personal Safety Habits
Good self-defence is not simply about what happens once a situation becomes physical.
Awareness, decision-making and recognising when something does not feel right can be just as important.
During the seminar, we will look at practical personal-safety habits and ways of approaching everyday situations with greater awareness. These are simple ideas that can become useful habits long after the session itself has finished.
Build Your Confidence
Confidence is a big part of personal protection.
That can include feeling comfortable setting clear verbal boundaries, trusting your instincts and knowing that you have options if somebody behaves aggressively or makes you uncomfortable.
Our seminar gives you the opportunity to practise these skills in a controlled environment and begin developing the confidence to use them when necessary.
And for many women, that increased confidence is one of the most valuable things they take away from self-defence training.
Take Home Our Personal Protection eBook
Everyone attending the seminar will also receive our free Personal Protection eBook.
It gives you additional information and practical advice that you can take away, read in your own time and use to reinforce some of the ideas introduced during the session.
Think of it as a useful extra rather than homework. We promise there will be no exam afterwards.
Never Tried Martial Arts Before?
That is absolutely fine.
In fact, our women-only open sessions are particularly suited to women who have thought about learning self-defence or martial arts but have never quite taken that first step.
AEGIS Leeds East is an inclusive martial arts academy where people of different ages, abilities and experience levels train together. Our women-only seminars give you the opportunity to experience our approach in a female-only setting before deciding whether you would like to take your training any further.
There is no expectation that attending the seminar means you need to become a martial artist afterwards.
You might simply want some practical self-defence knowledge.
You might discover that you really enjoy the training.
Either outcome is perfectly good.
